Headlight polish

Postby Gary Tayman on Sun May 09, 2010 1:22 pm

Anyone here have experience with the various headlight polishes out there?

I have three cars with those clear plastic headlight lenses. One is a Monte Carlo, the others are a Cadillac and an Impala.

The worst is the Monte Carlo. My wife had a small accident, and one of the headlights has been replaced. So it's one foggy and one clear.

I bought some Turtle Wax headlight cleaner kit, which has some sort of white cleaner -- and some lubricant to be used with four different sandpaper pads. I removed the headlight from the car and sanded the heck out of it, and it has yet to come clean. It's better than before, but still looks hazy compared to the newer one.

The Cadillac I cleaned with the white stuff, still has haze on the upper parts, so I'll try the sandpaper stuff -- these may indeed come clean.

The Impala has one new light, and there is a small difference but not bad -- maybe the white will take care of it.

What has been the experience of others? Should I just ditch this and go with a polishing compound and a buffer? Do I need to forget it and buy another headlight for $250? Tell me what you think.
